The name says it all, and for once the marketing isn't lying. The Gold Coast is Australia's surf capital. Snapper Rocks, Kirra, Burleigh Heads, D-Bah. World-class waves stacked within a few kilometres of each other. Surfers Paradise itself is the glittering, high-rise beach city that grew around all of it. It's loud, it's fun, and the surf culture runs right through it.
When.
March to September
Year-round. Cyclone swell in summer is the heavier water.

Worth knowing.
- 1. Surfers Paradise beach is good for beginners but the serious surf is at Snapper Rocks, Kirra and Burleigh, 10-15 min south.
- 2. The Superbank at Snapper is one of the longest sand-bottom waves in the world when it's firing. Worth a detour.
- 3. Avoid school holidays. The Gold Coast in summer with Australian kids on break is genuinely chaotic.
Go.
