Saquarema, the WSL
Saquarema calls itself the capital of Brazilian surfing. Itaúna is why. A hollow beach in front of the town, a church on the rock between here and Vila, a WSL Championship Tour stop. The lineup is competitive. The sand is the one on Brazilian television.

East and southeast swell. South and southwest flip the bank. Autumn and winter organise it.

- 1. This is a fast, hollow beach. The local crew has been in this water for years.
- 2. The church rock splits Itaúna from Vila. Check both. The swell angle picks the one that works.
- 3. Rio is about a hundred kilometres west. Weekend traffic is part of the trip.
- 4. Jaconé is down the coast if Saquarema is a closeout.
